Before Madison Ave. went wild with wax, lasers, and busy razors, the bodies of male underwear models had hair. BuzzFeed has paid tribute to this era with an impressive pictorial retrospective of men’s underwear advertising from the 70s (with some early 80s thrown in for good measure).
Included is this example of athlete-turned-model Jim Palmer wearing briefs in one of his ubiquitous Jockey ads from the period. The sexy Orioles pitcher is a fuzzy dream, even though any hint of the contents of his Poco briefs seems to have been airbrushed into oblivion. Anyway, a Jim Palmer underwear ad is a great reminder that male fur once had a place in advertising before it too was plucked, shorn, or torn into oblivion.

From her dress it looks like the lady might be from doomed planet Alderaan, but she sure is lucky here making nice to this sexy, swarthy, male model in red, meshy, Unusual Underthings briefs and his undeniably hairy body. This time, mercifully, the censors have left his underthing’s contours untouched.
