We took bum-chums In2cooler briefs and Classic hip briefs for a test drive. Today we try on the Tool Belt for size.

This British brand loves to mix materials and they’re very playful with the positioning of their durable and breathable mesh material.

While the In2cooler range gives a breath of sassy fresh air to a guy from front to back, the Tool Belt range takes a different approach to coverage. The hybrid design features a single-ply front pouch made from stretchy material that’s affixed to the signature waistband of these hip briefs. The design makes a perfect belt for a guy’s tool. The back and sides of the brief are made from the same type of mesh material as the In2cooler briefs, offering a revealing view of a guy’s backside. Unlike In2cooler range, a guy’s bits are covered, but the single-ply material ensures that these briefs aren’t so demure after all.

These briefs are supportive, well-ventilated (obviously) and not at all ordinary. The hip briefs are high-cut and flattering and even with the unconventional materials, they’re extremely comfortable, even after a day of wear.

bum-chums Tool Belt briefs are defintely supportive enough for the gym, and they’re certainly cool enough but they’re defintely not for guys who are a bit shy in the locker room. They’re also a great deal of fun to wear under work clothes and they’re perfect for the club.

We’ve come to expect high-quality construction from bum-chums and their Tool Belt briefs definitely live up to the British company’s high standards.

bum-chums Tool Belt hip briefs are available five sized and in three colors: Ice (blue & black) Ignite (red & black) and Air (black & white).

bum-chums provided product samples at no cost for this review. For more information about this British brand, go to www.bum-chums.com. Look for reviews of more bum-chums products soon.

Classic is the perfect name for this range because these extremely comfortable hip briefs remind us of the timeless look and feel of Calvin Klein’s Body line of men’s underwear. bum-chums Classics hip-briefs lack the mesh inserts of their sexier cousins but the full coverage provides a more conservative look for the locker room.

bum-chums Classics hip briefs are cut just as most guys would expect a hip brief: high-ish cut on the hip, low-ish rise on the waist. They’re made with a nice, thick, stretchy cotton material with a high-end, durable feel. These briefs have a pouch perfect for both supporting and flattering a guy’s goods.

These briefs are great for every day wear under your suit or khakis for work; they’re great for work-out wear and their classic design makes appropriate for any date night.

This is the second pair of bum-chums underwear we’ve tried and so far we’re very impressed with the fit and construction of this new underwear from across the pond.

bum-chums Classics hip briefs are available in black and white in five sizes.

British underwear label bum-chums is pretty aptly named. They make underwear that’s very friendly to the male body.

We’ll start with bum-chums In2cooler air hip briefs. What makes these low-rise hip briefs so cool is the stretchy mesh material that comprises the briefs’ front and back panels. This innovative mesh serves two purposes: it offers some show and tell of a man’s best parts (the front and the back) and provides ventilation. The pouch portion offers just the right amount of room. The remaining material is a semi-stretchy blend that feels like it might be a mix of cotton and lycra.

bum-chums In2cooler hip briefs fit pretty true to size. Some brands of men’s fashion underwear at this level run very small but bum-chums’ sizing seems more true to what one would expect from large, well-known international brands like Calvin Klein.

Construction and quality are top notch. Our friends at bum-chums thought of something that comparatively few high-end underwear makers consider: putting the label on the outside of their underwear. Their well-placed label sports the bum-chums logo and the Union Jack on one side and the fabric care instructions on the other. A tag placed on the outside of the waistband means no itchy tags!

These hip briefs make great underwear for club night, date night and even under your khakis or suit at the office. The ventilation factor would make them good workout wear in theory but this is special underwear and you may want something more basic for the gym.

Without reservation, bum-chums gets high marks for their In2cooler hip briefs. They’re innovative, tasteful and sexy without being too extreme.

In2cooler hip briefs are available in three colors: Ice (blue and black), Ignite (red and black) and Air (white and black) in five sizes.

With a Web site full of endorsements from surfers like Kelly Kraushaar, racers like Jake Johnson and Steve Raskett and skaters like David Vargas, KLeN Laundry makes underwear for guys who like to play.

His Trunks hooked boxers-or-briefs.com up with a pair of KLeN Laundry trunks to take for a test ride. This is underwear made for guys who love to move.

Although KLeN Laundry calls them trunks, the length is more that of a standard boxer brief, perhaps even a bit longer. Guys who prefer a shorter leg length might prefer KLeN Laundry’s briefs.

Made from a clever mix of 68 percent bamboo, 27 percent organic cotton and 5 percent spandex, KLeN Laundry trunks are comfortable and cool.

These trunks sport a bold waistband with a prominent KLeN Laundry logo. Contrasted stitching defines a generous pouch-like front. Similar stitching defines the leg bands as well.

KLeN Laundry trunks are perfect under jeans or looser shorts and they’re great for workout wear but they’re pretty full-cut so they could bunch up under snugger dress or casual slacks. While these won’t be tight enough for guys who really like their junk secure, these trunks do make great workout wear for guys who like to keep things supportive but slightly looser. The moisture wicking, thermal regulating and odor resistant fabric holds up nicely after a workout or a day at work.

KLeN Laundry smartly did away with a fabric and care tag and instead printed it in the back, underneath the waistband – no itchy tag! The washing instructions read simply: “if it stinks, machine wash cold, tumble dry medium.”

Available in Bamboo and Black in small (28-30), medium (31-33), large (34-36) and extra large (38-40). $18 at http://www.shophistrunks.com.

KLeN Laundry’s slogan says “We wanted a company that wasn’t dirty.” While the company’s business practices and sustainable materials may be squeaky clean, this is definitely underwear a guy can get a bit dirty in – and that’s a good thing. KLeN Laundry trunks get an A for attitude, a B for sex appeal, a A for comfort, a B for quality and an A for practicality.

Cocksox knocks off socks with their Cocksox Waistband Briefs. It seems like all of the best men’s underwear comes from Australia. Cocksox has some big competition in other Aussie underwear brands but their fashion-forward but still practical approach to handling a man’s anatomy is a real hit.

Made from a slightly stretchy blend of 92 percent Supplex ® and 8 percent Lycra ®, Cocksox Waistband Briefs have a sensual, luxurious feel.

For two reasons, and only two, these aren’t viable briefs to wear every day: most men don’t have the patience to hand-wash their underwear and most men can’t afford a full laundry cycle’s worth of $30 briefs. Besides that, these briefs are a total home run.

The trademark feature that literally gives Cocksox its name is a prominent pouch built right into the front of their men’s underwear.

Cocksox actually offers two pouch choices: the original pouch and their snug pouch. Both have their advantages. Both offer ample support for a guy’s goods. The original pouch is a bit larger and noticeably more ‘enhancing’ than the Cocksox™ Snug pouch. The Snug pouch is not quite as ‘enhancing’ but offers you the same amount of support and comfort as the Original. (You’ll find the Snug pouch very similar to wearing regular briefs but more comfortable and sexy).

These are essentially a bikini brief style. The rise is low and the hips are cut fairly high. The butt coverage is ample. What sets the waistband briefs apart from product Cocksox simply calls the underwear brief is, well, the bold, contemporary logo waistband. It’s nice that Cocksox offers their sexy briefs in both styles because some men prefer the waistband look and others may prefer the look of sleeker (and somewhat skimpier) briefs sans waistband.

These briefs keep their shape and comfort easily after a day of wear. Because they’re hand-wash only, Cocksox Waistband Briefs may not be the best choice for gym wear. They’re certainly supportive enough, but gym briefs are subject to more wear and tear than average. On the other hand, what better place than the gym locker room to show off one’s interest in great underwear. So these are the briefs you change into after you work out.

Cocksox Waistband Briefs are available in Carbon Black, Diablo Red, Mile High Blue, Power Blue and Quartz White (yes, these also sound like car color choices too) in even-number waist sizes 30-40. See the Cocksox sizing guide here. $29 at www.cocksox.com.

Celebrating manhood the only way Aussies know how to do, Cocksox Waistband Briefs get an A for attitude, an A for sex appeal, a A for comfort, a A for quality and an B for practicality.

For decades, women have had the luxury of undergarments that lift and boost and enhance their busts. But only in the last few years have men’s underwear designers taken a good look strategies to better package a man’s package.

Men’s underwear designer and entrepreneur Tim Wildman created the Ball Lifter after lots of trial and error trying to make his men’s underwear models’ packages look fuller and more appealing. He found that by boosting a guy’s jewels a bit higher, he’d fill out his underwear much more noticeably. Eventually, the Ball Lifter went from an underwear model’s trade secret to a ball booster any guy could buy.

Instead of spending money on “male enhancement” pills or surgery, a simple under-under garment does the trick.

While it can be worn on its own underneath clothing (try wearing it with loose track pants – you’ll get lots of looks), the WildmanT Ball Lifter does its best work as a complement to other, looser-fitting underwear. It gives regular boxer shorts a very nice boost.

The WildmanT Ball Lifter is actually quite comfortable. It doesn’t work like a c-ring so it doesn’t constrict a guy’s anatomy; it just pushes his goods a bit forward. The waistband is plain and unassuming.

If there’s one thing that could be done a bit differently with the WildmanT Ball Lifter, it’s the rise of the waistband. Were the garment given a slightly lower rise it would be easier to conceal underneath another pair of underwear or swimwear. Besides that, this is an excellent way for a guy to get a nice boost without cutting off circulation to his most precious parts.

Filling an important need in men’s underwear, The WildmanT Ball Lifter gets an A for attitude, an A for sex appeal, a B+ for comfort, a B+ for quality and an A+ for practicality.

is proudly South African. The cuts, colors and attitude of Bone Wear’s product lines bring a fresh, welcome and sassy perspective to menswear.

Each brand and style of men’s underwear seems to treat a man’s goods differently. After a good look at the Bone Wear web site, most guys will have a good idea of how Bone Wear underwear handles men’s goods in their various, ahem, states. These briefs have a defined pouch suitable for most men. The pouch is supportive and flattering but isn’t designed to “enhance” per se.

The 1-1/2-inch waistband of the Bone Wear classic brief is white with a repeating

“Bone Wear”

name all the way around. It seems the brief is divided into four panels, each with a seam set off with white stitching. The front pouch panel has a seam down the middle (no contrasting stitching on the front panel seam). Two additional panels work their way to the single, large back panel. This pair comes in an unusual but stylish bijou rust color but the briefs are available in baby blue, black, white and red in a stretchy cotton/lycra blend and green, jade and rust with the bijou fabric blend. For comparison, the cotton/lycra blend Bone Wear briefs have a fabric that’s similar to the Calvin Klein Pro Stretch line and the bijou briefs have a fabric that’s similar to the Calvin Klein XT line.

These briefs have a relatively tight fit. The bijou fabric stretches a bit so there’s a little bit of room to grow but not much.

Sitting low-to-mid-rise, the Bone Wear classic briefs are a fine choice for lower-rise jeans and pants.

Bone Wear’s classic briefs still fit nicely and feel great after a day and a night of wear. The bijou material is less absorbent than one made from all cotton but it should stay cool and dry enough for most guys.

The Bone Wear classic brief is comfortable for every day wear but the cotton/lycra blend of these briefs almost makes them seem to special for the day-to-day. So they make good day wear and great date wear!

If Bone Wear’s classic briefs have a flaw, it’s that the material was pinched a bit at the back seem. This doesn’t cause a functional problem but it prevents the rear end from being completely smooth and seamless. Bone Wear’s care and fabric tags are a bit thick and irritate a bit, but only mildly. The sensual bijou fabric makes up for these shortcomings.

Earning a well-deserved place in the boxers-or-briefs honor roll, the

I was definitely intrigued when I first laid eyes on a pair of Toasty Boys boxer briefs (and yes, perhaps a little skeptical.) Toasty Boys do not look like any pair of underwear I have ever seen, let alone worn. Essentially a pair of longjohns cut short, Toasty Boys are thermal, ribbed boxer briefs with obvious warmth and comfort in mind.

There is no subtlety or skimpiness to

Toasty Boys

. In fact, they appear downright bulky. But the fun, bright colors and thick, soft fabric combined with its practical, uncommon manufacture were all too tempting. I couldn’t wait to get into them.

Immediately upon pulling them on, I realized how this undergear got its name. No doubt, this boxer brief keeps your “boys toasty.” Yes, the garment’s bulkiness was a concern. But upon wear that concern disappeared very quickly. Toasty Boys are so warm and so comfortable they are almost like putting on your favorite pair of pajamas. Yet they are surprisingly lightweight and passed my ultimate underwear test: I soon forgot that I was even wearing them. They sit right at the waist and will fit nicely under a pair of jeans or casual slacks. And they worked very well all by themselves under the bedcovers.

However, let me be clear;

Toasty Boys

are not meant to be worn on holiday in Hawaii or a weekend at the beach. This is a heavy, sturdy garment. While wearing them, I instead found myself longing to chop wood in the snow or curl up next to a roaring fire and toast marshmallows with my true love. Toasty Boys will make the cold weather hot.

With the words Toasty Boys emblazoned in large text along the wide waistband, it won’t take someone long to catch on to designer Christopher Anthony’s intent. Fun, sturdy, warmth and exquisite comfort. And if you live in a hot climate, don’t worry, Toasty’s tropical cousin Bamboo Boys is set to unveil itself soon.

Made from 100% naturally grown cotton, first wash your Toasty Boys in cold water with a low temperature dry. If they’re not snug enough, wash warm with a warm dry. Available in natural or grey. Sizes small (30 – 32), medium (32 – 34), large (34 – 36), and extra large (36 – 38). Each pair costs $28 at

www.christopheranthony.net

.

My Boxer-or-Briefs grade for Toasty Boys is a B+. I loved the warmth and the comfort (and so did my boys!) The bulkiness, however, made for a somewhat irregular-looking fit. There was definitely some empty space down below between my boys and the bottom of the boxer brief, but I’m sure this is something that a few washes will correct in no time. I don’t live in a cold climate, so I’m not sure how much use I’d get out of my Toasty Boys. But the luxurious softness and casualness of the underwear is undeniable.
